UnionAID’s Wellington quiz night raising funds for Filipino paint factory workers

In 2019, a year after a law was passed in the Philippines to promote workers’ health and safety, there were over 40,000 reported occupational injuries and nearly 55,000 cases of occupational diseases. Four years later the Government’s Department of Labor and Employment found that more than half of inspected businesses failed to adhere to standards.

To address this situation, in partnership with the Alliance of Nationalist and Genuine Labor Organization (ANGLO), a new UnionAID project will target a number of paint factories in Metro Manila involving about 1000 workers (half women) to:
✓ establish worker led OSH committees
✓ identify health and safety breaches
✓ develop strategies to address these
✓ improve OSH outcomes

So, if you’re in Wellington, get a team together, and join us for a fun night of trivia, union rivalry, and solidarity – raising funds for this important project.
