As billionaires and corporate leaders gather at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Public Services International (PSI) has joined a powerful new coalition demanding higher taxes on the world’s wealthiest. The alliance includes major labour organisations like the International Trade Union Confederation alongside prominent NGOs such as Greenpeace, Oxfam, and Amnesty International.
The coalition highlights the stark reality that the top 1% now own more wealth than 95% of humanity. They are calling for ambitious tax rates on the richest 1%, global cooperation to prevent tax evasion, and using the revenue to fund public services and tackle climate change.
“The richest are profiting while the rest pay an unacceptable price,” states the coalition’s launch document. The campaign aims to shift tax decision-making to a more inclusive global forum where all countries, especially developing nations, have an equal voice in creating a fairer economic system.
