NZEI Expands Horizons for Dalit and Tribal Children

Since attending one of the sixteen village education centres for Dalit and Tribal children in Tamil Nadu, twelve year old Subiksha says she hopes eventually to get a government job – with the security that would bring. The extra free tuition means her school marks have improved to make this once impossible dream seem within reach.

The Tamil Nadu Labour Union, who runs the centres for their members’ families, reports that increasing numbers of these pupils now go on to tertiary education. This success has only been possible because of NZEI funding over the past nine years.

Now Subiksha’s two younger siblings have joined her centre, swelling the total numbers of children attending centres to 929.
