UnionAID partner the Fiji Trade Union Congress (FTUC) will launch a Living Wage for Fiji campaign next year, National Secretary Felix Anthony has announced. Speaking at the Pacific Regional Tripartite Conference marking the 50th anniversary of the ILO in the Pacific, Anthony highlighted the ongoing campaign for a national minimum wage while looking ahead to the next phase of worker advocacy.
“We continue to campaign with the Government on the National Minimum Wage,” Anthony said. “And next year, the FTUC will launch its campaign for a Living Wage for Fiji.” He welcomed the revitalisation of 10 sectoral Wages Councils under the current government and stressed that decent work must be more than just a slogan.
Anthony emphasised the need to embed workers’ rights in policy decisions, particularly regarding emerging issues like AI and climate change. He called for stronger social security mechanisms, noting that the pandemic exposed significant gaps in these systems throughout the Pacific region.
