Peter Conway Memorial Lecture: Hardship, hope, and why journalism matters
August 2 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Free
UnionAID warmly invites you to attend the annual Peter Conway Memorial Lecture, this year with investigative journalist, Rebecca Macfie, who will discuss the vital role of storytelling in building a more just community.
This annual memorial lecture is hosted by UnionAID in honour of Peter Conway; trade union leader, economist, internationalist and founding trustee of UnionAID who sadly died in 2015. Peter dedicated his life to advocating for working people and these annual lectures keep that mission alive.
Join us to commemorate Peter Conway’s legacy, whilst delving into the role of journalism in our society and exploring why the stories we tell – the narratives of hardship and hope – can help to uplift voices, foster understanding, and promote social justice.
Speaker:
Rebecca Macfie is a multi-award winning journalist and writer. She authored Tragedy at Pike River Mine: How and Why 29 Men Died and won the 2019 CLNZ/NZSA Writers’ Award for her biography of former NZCTU president Helen Kelly, Helen Kelly – Her Life.
