Bangladesh garment workers take on Amazon

Our friends at the National Garment Workers Federation (NGWF) report that garment workers across Bangladesh staged coordinated demonstrations against Amazon on Black Friday, demanding fair wages and safe working conditions. The NGWF and National Shop and Retail Employees Federation (NSEF) organised actions across ten industrial zones, uniting textile workers and retail employees under the rallying cry “Pay Amazon – Pay!”

Workers are fighting back against wage theft, union busting, and unsafe conditions in Amazon’s 33 supplier factories across Bangladesh. Building on their 2023 legal case against Amazon under German supply chain law, the unions are maintaining pressure through coordinated action. The NGWF and NSEF continue to organise locally while building connections with unions worldwide to strengthen their campaign for decent work.

UnionAID supports democratic, worker-led organisations that help empower working people to improve their work and livelihoods through collective action.
