PACIFIC ISLANDS BRACE FOR COVID-19 STORM
People in the Pacific Islands have weathered many cyclones but COVID-19 is shaping up to be a storm like no other in the Pacific. Fiji has confirmed a dozen cases and most main centres have now entered lockdown in an effort to prevent further spread.
The Pacific Island countries are uniquely vulnerable to the impact of COVID-19, with already under-resourced public health systems and economies that are highly reliant on tourism. For working people there is now enormous anxiety about what the future holds.

Kuini Lutua from the NUFCW said that while the union will be doing everything it can to ensure employers protect jobs, it is preparing for redundancies and helping members through the coming hardship.
