Geopolitics a tough topic at Myanmar Young Leaders conference
High profile speakers on geopolitics, including our Ambassador Steve Marshall, had alumni enthralled at the alumni conference in Bagan recently. Myanmar is rich in resources and with a number of powerful neighbours, tensions over the exploitation of minerals and other natural resources by other countries are a common concern, particularly for minority groups who are often displaced from their lands.
The conference is also an opportunity for old friendships to be renewed, new friends across years to be made, and to debate local issues. An enthusiastic group of seven chose to organise next year’s event and the topic of political dynamics and transition following the 2020 elections was chosen as the most popular.
