Myanmar Young Leaders Programme 2020
Applications for UnionAID’s 2020 Myanmar Young Leaders Programme (MYLP) are now open.
We are inviting applications from emerging community leaders, aged between 24-35 working in civil society organisations (CSOs), non-government organisations (NGOs), women’s rights organisations, and ethnic or labour organisations (unions) in Myanmar.
The programme brings twelve leaders from Myanmar to New Zealand from March until August each year, to study democratic processes, human rights and economics so they can contribute to the peaceful transition to democracy in their own country.
The programme is in its tenth year, and has a network of 77 alumni now contributing to Myanmar’s transition to democracy; those who have participated in the programme have developed greater self-confidence and demonstrated leadership qualities through job promotions and in higher level positions. Many have become actively involved in local and national level issues.
The MYLP is fully funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and is managed my UnionAID in collaboration with Victoria University of Wellington.
